Team Evolve Digital Labs is happy to have a new member on board. Read on to find more about this guy!
Hey everyone! I’m Blake, and I’m really stoked to be doing digital strategy work on the Evolve team.
I’ve been active on the web for years. It’s been almost fifteen years since I built my first website, and I haven’t stopped learning the way the web works since. At previous jobs I’ve used my skills in digital and creative strategy to help social and search campaigns for many different industries.
I’m hoping to add a lot to the Evolve team, and hoping to learn a lot from the incredible talent they have here already. Lots of great stuff to look to in the future!
What’s your favorite web site?
I would like to say it is one of my own websites (www.ReviewSTL.com, however, most of my time is wasted on Reddit. It’s got everything; informative science/tech articles, great discussion, and let’s not forget the memes it creates. It can be a bit tiring at times, but if you are looking to kill time, it is the best.
On a given Friday night, you’ll probably be:
It depends on the night honestly. I really enjoy going out with my friends, but sometimes it is nice to be able to sit on the couch and enjoy a good (or terrible) movie.
What draws you to this industry?
Like Tom Hanks in Big, I made a wish to a Zoltar fortune teller machine in New York, and somehow I garbled some words and I was transported into agency life. My mom always told me to not mumble. I guess I learned my lesson.
Actually, every facet of marketing has always held my interest. I started developing websites when I was younger, and used SEO to draw visitors to them. I’ve done all kinds of marketing work from search engine marketing to full integrated marketing campaigns.
Mac or PC?
As a gamer it’s easier for me to be a PC. I don’t have anything against Macs, but I like being able to build my own rig and push it to the limits after tweaking it. I’ve owned both, but PC has always been more in my budget range.
What’s the last book you read?
The last book I read was “Manhood for Amateurs: The Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son” by Michael Chabon. His book, “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay” is my favorite book of all time, and when I found his book of essays about his life, I couldn’t pass it up.A
If you could have a beer with anyone in the world, who would it be?
George Lucas. I simultaneously love and hate him. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have my love for film and much of the creative world. I also wouldn’t have a lot of the skills I have since the first websites I made were Star Wars websites. Despite how you feel about him, the man has seen every aspect of the Hollywood system, and probably has some great stories to tell. I could also give him a nice slap across the face for all he has put his fans through.
Is there anything you want us (and the world) to know about you?
I’m unapologetically geeky. I have an enduring love for all things creative. I constantly annoy my friends with new music, films, and books they should be consuming. I’m a media junkie, and probably will be for the rest of my life. It’s that passion for media that has driven me to this point in my life.
