Increase Clickthrough Rate for AdWords: What You Need to Know

AdWords campaigns don’t exist in a vacuum – or at least, they shouldn’t. The good news is that there are a number of different methods that you can start using today to increase AdWords click through rate responses exponentially. You’ll just need to keep a few key things in mind.

If you want to unlock a better AdWords CTR, the first thing you’ll need to do is start making your ads more relevant. The more relevant you can make both your answer ad and your overall ad experience to the search query you’re targeting, the better you chance will be that your ad will be clicked and offer a conversion.

You’ll also want to make sure that you’re using “exact match” settings so that your ads will only be served for people who search precisely for the keywords in your campaigns. Keep in mind, though, that your impressions may decrease – this is okay because your CTR will increase at the same time.

And don’t just focus on your Ads. Landing page content has to relevant as well. Irrelevant page content will lead to a higher bounce rate and signal to Google your site was the wrong answer for the consumer’s search query. Relevancy is king!

Along the same lines, it is always essential to know your audience as deeply as possible. They’re trying to accomplish a particular job or task via their search. Understanding that goal and creating ads that help them through it (and onto your landing page) is a great way to attract the right type of attention. Make it easy for people – use action phrases like “Book Now” or “Shop Now” to your advantage.

There are some additional tips that you can use for a better AdWords CTR. They include:

  • Using ad extensions, to help your ads take up more space on the search engine “Results” page.
  • Leveraging the right and most relevant keywords in your ad URLs.
  • Including calls-to-action in the description.
  • Bidding on your brand terms – focus on the terms that matter the most to your audience.

To the point about CTAs in particular, this is an essential element of any campaign because it’s directing your readers to take action. You’re using very precise, direct language to both tell your reader what step that they should take next AND make it easy for them to do so. Don’t get overly wordy – include phrasing like “GET INFORMATION” or “SHOP NOW” or any other specific action you’d like them to take.
